Another Untapped Source of Proven Content?

Over the past several years, I’ve explored pretty much every type of content available in the Public Domain, from books and magazines to patents, videos and more. In that time, I concluded that I had pretty much seen it all…that there were no new surprises available for me to discover. Recently, I discovered I was wrong.

I put together a two-page report that explains my discovery. Don’t let the small page count fool you…what I’m revealing in these two pages is HUGE! Find out for yourself!

A Video Challenge

Here’s a fun challenge for you

I’ve been speaking at Simple 3: Video Velocity this weekend in Anaheim, CA this weekend and the hands-on workshops have been awesome. Challenging the attendees to actually DO what we’re teaching so that, in the end, they actually have finished videos uploaded and available on YouTube and on their website. Some of them are doing it kicking and screaming…lol…but they’re getting their videos done. It’s very cool.

And that brings me to the challenge…

I’ve been talking about the importance and need to create your own videos. It’s not a suggestion…it’s a necessity if you’re serious about building an online business. Have you created any videos that are actually online yet? If yes…awesome! Produce more! If no, what are you waiting for?

I want to challenge you to create your first (or a new) video TODAY and post the link on my blog so I can see it. I want to know you’re getting this and DOING it! Plus…it could be fun. Now…about the video you’re going to create…it can be ANY kind of video, such as:

  • A Live Action Video: Talk into your video camera, flip cam, smart phone, etc. Share a one-minute tip you can share with the world that can help the viewer.
  • A Screencast Video: Create a quick Powerpoint video on your product or service, or again, to share a valuable tip or insight.
  • A Mixed Media Video: Use Animoto or other video program to create a video with photos, text, music, etc. that shares something helpful, fun or uplifting.
  • A Live Broadcast Video: Setup, broadcast and record a brief video on UStream where you share something of value to your audience (or potential audience).

Once your video is created, upload it to YouTube and share the link in the comments section below of this article. I can’t wait to see what you come up with! And, by the way, if you haven’t figured this out yet, I am offering you exposure to your message on my blog at no cost. Also, for everyone who takes up my challenge and completes it, I will give you a special bonus…full access to my Master DVD Templates and my Master Powerpoint Templates (which currently isn’t available).

I also want to remind you that, this weekend only, my Limitless Video Content course is being specially discounted just for you! Instead of the regular price of $197, you can grab it this weekend at 61% off…just $77! It’s the last time I’ll be offering it at this price…ever. Don’t miss out. It’s one of the best courses I’ve ever taught.

So here is what to do next…

Pick up your copy of Limitless Video Content at the Weekend Special offer.

Have fun creating your video!

Create your video and get it uploaded to YouTube today!

Go to my blog and post the link (once I see you’ve posted your video, I’ll send you the download info for your bonus.

Now get busy…grin.

Let’s Discuss Your Success, Face-to-Face!

Have you hit a roadblock in your efforts to make a decent living on the Internet?

Don’t feel alone. Most people never make it past the first bump in the road, much less the real full-strength roadblocks that can sit right in your roadway to the top.

It’s not that they aren’t working at it.

Lots of people spend years reading and studying everything that they can get their hands on and from that group an even  smaller group actually do something.

Most of those people wind up frustrated and spinning their wheels, wondering all the while why they can’t be successful.

The worst part is that they know that people are successful at making a decent living on-line and yet despite all of the reams of advice that they receive, all of the products they purchase and all of the work that they put in, they just can’t seem to get past the roadblocks.

Maybe this is you …

  • Feeling like you just can’t get started?
  • Need something to get you off your “behind” and  into action?
  • Feeling like you need some big-time help?
  • Want some inside techniques that really work?
  • Want a clear handle on the basics?
  • Need some joint venture partners to kick you up to the next level?
  • Need to get out of your basement and meet real people that are already doing what you want to do?
  • Need answers to a few technical questions?
  • Need help putting everything together?
  • Need some feedback on your next project?

Feel like you just can’t break into the “big-time” success that you see others having?

You will meet at least two major roadblocks when you first try to create and sell products or services on the Internet.

  1. Creating your first product and the tools that you need to sell it.  (web site, graphics, packaging, etc.)
  2. Getting the first sale.

One “strategy” I’ve used over the years to help me BLAST through those roadblocks has been attending LIVE events! They provide you with an opportunity to learn from the experts who have been where you are, but also enable you to sit down and talk with like-minded people face-to-face and get questions answered.

Ken McArthur’s jvAlert is a great event for that type on face-to-face connecting because Ken wisely created the event for that purpose, and it has paid off for thousands of up-and-coming marketers just like you!

The next jvAlert is coming up shortly in Orlando and I’ve decided to team up with Ken and many other friends and Internet Marketers to make THIS jvAlert an unforgettable experience!

http://publicdomainblog.com/go/jv

Ken is a friend of mine, who sees the insides of “real life” projects every day.  In fact, he is at the center of a group of people that work together in a regular “idea factory” of a place with his jvAlert.

You would be amazed at the people that are in this group.

Ken actually arranges for these top-level people to work with you on YOUR projects and then they turn around and promote your products too.

Ken invited me to be a part of this event and I grabbed the chance right away.

But …

Then he started telling me some of the other people that are coming. Many of them my friends and mentors…

Imagine working on your project with people like Ken McArthur, Gary Ambrose, Jason Anderson, Michael Angier, Phil Basten, Alan Bechtold, Nashlah Boyayan, Shahar Boyayan, Hollis Carter, Joe Clayton, Lee Collins, Paul Counts, Willie Crawford, Glenn Dietzel, Ron Dilbert, Andy Duncan, Brian T. Edmondson, Ray Edwards, Mike Evans, Stephanie Frank, Carl Galletti, Edie Galley, Michael Glaspie, Ross Goldberg, John Halpin, Mark Hendricks, Eric Holmlund, Shel Horowitz, Michael Humphreys, Bob Jenkins, Audrey Kerwood, Sohail Khan, Walt Laurel, Simon Leung, Skye Mangrum, Jane Mark, PJ McClure, Deb Micek, Daven Michaels, Melanie Milletics, Joey Montez, Chris Moos, Cori Padgett, Scott Paton, David Perdew, Daniel Perry, Susan Preston, David Preston, Laura Roman Lopez, Marlon Sanders, Thom Scott, Brad Semp, Felicia Slattery, Joey Smith, Frank Sousa, Erik Stafford, Howard Tiano, Jeff Wellman, Mike Wesely, Jess Kennedy Williams, Bob Yeager and more, more, more!

They are ALL going to be there and a pile of other experts too! Imagine what this Super Panel to do to help move your business forward!

So where does YOUR project come into this?

Ken has developed a very unique “Hot Seat” that is perfectly designed to get you feedback and even more crucial, exposure to people that can really make a difference for your project.

Here’s the way it works …

When you register for the event, you are given the opportunity to apply to be on the “Hot Seat.”

The expert panel selects the best ideas and those ideas are assigned a spot on the “Hot Seat” schedule.

The presenter of the idea prepares a 15 minute presentation to pitch their idea to the “Hot Seat” panel of experts and all of the people who attend the event.

Then the fun begins …

You get to listen in as our panel grills the person on the “hot seat” and picks their project to bits.

Then we turn right around and build it back up with ideas from the best minds in the business.

You KNOW you are going to pick-up some great ideas from this series whether you are in the “Hot Seat” or comfortably watching someone else squirm a little as these top-level professionals show you exactly (and specifically) how to take a starting idea and turn it into REAL money.

But, even more important than that, you and I can spend some quality time together one on one. I know that we can come up with ways to work together that will make this new year great for both of us. Whether you want to work with Public Domain content, or create your own content, we can definitely determine the BEST strategies that will work for you!

http://publicdomainblog.com/go/jv

If you have any questions on this, don’t hesitate to let me know.  I’m definitely going to be there, so let’s not let this opportunity to get together pass by. Plus, because I am planning to spend extra time in the Orlando are, we can definitely meet up!

There’s limited space, so don’t wait.

Legally “Steal” Taxpayer Dollars?

TAXES…we ALL have to pay them…from income taxes and sales taxes to gas taxes and luxury taxes. We EVEN have to pay death taxes! We have no choice. Our tax money is “needed” so that our government can “pay for” all sorts of important stuff that is beneficial for us. You know the routine…you earn the money, give some of it to the government, and they spend it! And so “we the people” have developed a mindset that once that tax money leaves our paychecks, credit cards and checking accounts, it is GONE… FOREVER!

Once the money is spent by the government on important, necessary stuff it is no longer available to us because SPENT means, “it’s not ours anymore.” Right? NOT NECESSARILY! What if there was a way that you could get ALL your taxpayer dollars back and more…legally. Would you be interested? I knew you would be! Check this out:

Interactive Content Creation: An Experiment

This morning, I had a 5-hour drive to pick up my daughter. When I first began my drive, I thought about the different types of business-related activities I’ve accomplished while being on a long drive. Stuff like coaching calls, teleseminars, masterminds and other phone-related activities (I strongly recommend using a headset or bluetooth device so you can keep both hands free) came to mind. I have also created videos while driving…the camera was on the dashboard. Of course, long drives are also a great time to catch up on audio training and audio books (something I do quite regularly).

Then I got an idea. I wondered if I could create a different type of content while I was driving by using the interactive power of Facebook. So I pulled off the road, made a post to my Facebook wall using my iPad and asked for responses. The results were pretty cool, and showed just how powerful (and fun) interactive, user-generated content can be.

Below is the actual dialog from my Facebook wall from earlier today. The conversation will likely continue to grow. Occasionally you will see where I interjected additional thoughts. Those were the times I stopped for breaks. Enjoy the dialog and feel free to join in below in the comments!

Tony Laidig: While I’ve been driving, I’ve been thinking about the things that cause us to think or act irrationally (not including alcohol and controlled substances…grin). A couple ideas…seeing a friend or family member in danger. As a guy…women…lol. How about you? What makes you do things that defy logic or reason?

Heddy Rhea: Anxiety…and stress.

Heddy Rhea: And should you be doing this while you are driving?? :)

Tony Laidig: At a service plaza…grin.

Monty Craig: Seeing a Semi coming toward me as I am thinking too deeply while driving! Ha ha…

Kristen Eckstein: Dealing with a psychotic client who expects a best-seller quality book cover in less than 10 seconds & bugs me every 5 seconds for it until it’s ready. (I bet you can relate, Tony!)

Apothecary Jeri: Government agencies come to mind ……MVA, USPS …not that it ever happens to me of course :p

Therese Sparby: Things that defy logic or reason?!?!? I do this all the time… Every time I make a commitment that requires faith, and I follow my instinct. (for example- becoming an entrepreneur and building a business to many people… often including myself… defys both reason and logic) :-)

Laureen Falco: I would say one of the things I’ve done to defy logic or reason was to skydive. I’m one of the few – that didn’t really enjoy my tandem jump – and that one minute free fall felt like a lifetime – especially when you’re thinking that this is the stupidest thing I’ve ever done! Had I had a great time – it would have been exhilarating. But the whole time, it was being filmed, and I kept trying so hard to keep my lunch down.

Elaine Ireland: Seeing my kids/grand kids do something that I KNOW is going to hurt them and not being able to do/say anything to prevent it. Sooo, I go do something stupid to compensate for it. Silly, huh?

Tony Laidig: Great comments everyone! Here are a few more I thought of (no I’m not typing this while driving). Unresolved emotions or trauma (like road rage), fight or flight scenarios, fear, faith, peer pressure and my personal favorite…chocolate.

Elaine Ireland: Since when is chocolate…anything, but GOOD for body, mind and soul?

Tony Laidig: True Elaine…but it still makes me act irrationally at times…especially when I NEED it. lol

Heidi Walter: Interesting, chocolate has never made me act irrationally. Must be my genetics. LOL.

Cathy Colonna Rogers: KIDS – Especially your own. They have a way of getting you so frustrated in an argument you can’t even put together a coherent sentence!

Tony Laidig: BTW…I am not suggesting that these triggers will always lead to irrational behavior or will do so in all people. I also realize that “irrational” is subjective. I just find it fascinating that there are influences that can control us with…out explanation. That said, here are some more possible triggers I thought of: Self-preservation, belief in a cause, a need to belong or fit in, the supernatural, organized groups or religions, chemical imbalances or food allergies, group devotion (like sports fans…grin). Any other thoughts?See More

Taylore Vance: This is Scary and we need to realize that this is behind unrest…and social problems including substance abuse — why try if you are hopeless? (Good question) http://ymlp.com/zBy5lG

Heidi Walter: Oh, Tony, you’ll have to get Maxine Jones’ book on agreements when it comes out later this fall. I am editing it now. It’s all about the conscious and unconscious agreements we make, like aging (which doesn’t have to happen) and needing food to survive (That was a human consciousness agreement that built up over the centuries). Fascinating and empowering stuff. We don’t know the title yet, but I’ll be writing about it once it’s ready.

Audrey Spiegel: All great comments and insight….I’d like to add insecurity. Oh, and being hungry and tired.

Susan L. Strahosky: My predominate psychic sense is feeling. I’ve realized it can make me feel crazy when I feel things. I’m aware of things, but there is not physical or outward validation. Like there’s an elephant in the room and everyone else is in denial.

Debby Hall: Love…any and all kinds, romantic, parental, friendships. Logic and reason can go out the window when it comes to love and that’s not necessarily a bad thing:)

Search Engine Savvy

When it comes to search engines, we all tend to get a bit myopic, thinking Google is our ONLY real choice for finding the info we need. Of course, nothing could be further from the truth! The truth is that there are literally thousands of search engines available for us to use for our “data mining” duties, and some of them are rather cool. In this post, I thought I’d share some of the search engines I have been playing with recently.

BlinkX: Blinkx offers access to over 35 million hours of index videos from across the web. Using patented conceptual search, speech recognition and video analysis software, Blinkx is extremely efficient and accurate with finding and qualifying online video. They are the world’s largest single index of rich media content on the Web, and deliver more content from a broader range of sources than either Google or Yahoo! They also offer the ability to embed a “wall” of videos based on your search results on your own website.

Technorati: Technorati has been around for quite a while, but it’s likely that you aren’t using it, which is why I’ve included it in this list. They are the leading blog search engine and directory and indexes more than a million blogs. So if you are looking for relevant info on your topic and want to see what other bloggers are writing about, Technorati is your answer. You can also use the results to find articles related to your topic so that you can comment and benefit from the backlinks. I personally use it for leads on new content and info that isn’t being widely shared.

InkMesh: Inkmesh is an ebook search engine that makes it easier to find free ebooks and compare ebook prices for the Kindle, iPhone, Sony Reader, Nook and more. What I like about this search engine is that, not only can I use it to find free e-books, but I can also use the results to “spy” on what Public Domain books are being released by others. Being an iPad user, this is a super cool website for finding e-book gems!

NowRelevant: NowRelevant was a pleasant discovery! It is the interface portal for The Internet Time Machine’s backend search engine that gives you access to every written word about a subject for the past 14 days. It monitor millions of sources and feeds to give you the most up to date and pertinent information on your subject. What that means is that rather than have to filter through ALL the results you would find through Google or Yahoo…some of them years old…NowRelevant limits your results to just the past 14 days, and they offer a time slider that allows you to cut the results down to even fewer days. Why this cool is that your results enable you to track trends easily, which means you can target your PPC campaigns (among other things) with current, relevant data! Gotta love that!

The UK’s Open Government License

Public Domain content in the United Kingdom recently took a huge step forward with the release of the Open Government License by the UK Government Licensing Framework (UKGLF). The Open Government Licence (OGL) is a simple set of terms and conditions to enable the free re-use of government and public sector information.

“The OGL covers information where the relevant rights owner, or Information Provider which has authority to license the Information for use, make it expressly available for use under the terms of the OGL. This can be achieved by a clear statement in the information being licensed, or in a position which relates to the information, or by means of a hyperlink.

The OGL can cover:

  • non-personal information and works which are subject to copyright and database right (much of this information will be accessible on public sector web sites or already published by the public sector)
  • previously unpublished datasets released by the public sector; and
  • source code and software originating from public sector bodies.

Much of this information will be accessible on public sector web sites, online portals or printed publications.” (excerpted from HERE)

When a UK “work” is licensed under the OGL, the Licensor grants you a worldwide, royalty-free, perpetual, non-exclusive licence to use the Information subject to the conditions below.

You are free to:

  • copy, publish, distribute and transmit the Infomation;
  • adapt the Information;
  • exploit the Information commercially for example, by combining it with other Information, or by including it in your own product or application.

There is also attribution required as a part of the license, very similar to a Creative Commons license.

The OGL opens up a LOT of amazing content for use in product creation and more (you saw point #3, right?). One example of the wealth of content available under this license is the National Archives in the UK, which contains a massive treasure trove of documents, images and more. Make sure you spend some time reading this exciting new license in its entirety, then prepare to embark on a treasure hunt of UK proportions!

Finding Treasure at the National Archives

One of the greatest treasure troves of works in the Public Domain is the National Archives (NARA). NARA’s “job” is to archive Federal records that are judged to have continuing value—about 2 to 5 percent of those generated in any given year. As you would imagine, this has resulted in a growing massive collection of materials, diverse in form as well as in content. There are approximately 9 billion pages of textual records; 7.2 million maps, charts, and architectural drawings; more than 20 million still photographs; billions of machine-readable data sets; and more than 365,000 reels of film and 110,000 videotapes. All of these materials are preserved because they are important to the workings of Government, have long-term research worth, or provide information of value to citizens (like making money from new products created with them).

While the materials currently available online are but a fraction of NARA’s total holdings, there is still tens of thousands of works available to you online right now. And…if you want to have even MORE fun, I would highly recommend making a trip to the National Archives in College Park, MD. With 6 floors of Public Domain goodness, you will be like a kid in a candy store. It is truly an amazing experience. What is great is that they even allow you to bring in your digital cameras, video cameras, laptops and scanners…all for the purpose of duplicating the “hard copy” editions of the content. One of my personal highlights so far was being able to scan original prints by Ansel Adams taken of our most popular National Parks.

The National Archives has a comprehensive Archival Research Catalog (ARC) available online. Search the ARC HERE. Click on “Search Options” and then click on the “Digital Copies” tab at the top. Now you’re ready to search through ARC’s online records. You can also explore the National Archives online exhibits HERE and HERE.
