The Open Knowledge Foundation Wiki has been collaborating with other organizations to create an algorithm to determine whether or not a certain work was in the public domain, given certain details such as date of publication, date of death of author, and so on. What’s so amazing about this project is that they are not just focusing on United States Public Domain works, but for other countries as well.
